Question:
I received an email that claims that I sent a message to bob@somedomain.com. I don't know who that is and I never sent any message to that address. Do I have a virus?
Answer:
No, you probably don't have a virus. Most likely someone else has a virus and is sending out messages with YOU as the FROM address. This is just as simple as writing a false return address on a postal letter. When there is an error or virus warning, the response goes back to YOU because it appears that YOU sent the message even though you didn't.
Note: It is still important to keep your virus software up to date and if you think you may have a virus, it is ALWAYS a good idea to scan your computer just in case.
Question:
What can I do to stop this?
Answer:
Nothing. Just delete the message and get on with your day.
